Why does the water look white?

When filling a glass from the tap, the water may sometimes appear ‘white’. This is caused by tiny air bubbles that quickly dissolve from the bottom upwards.

These air bubbles can form when strong movements occur in the distribution network (for example, due to sudden high consumption during firefighting operations). They do not, in themselves, have any adverse effect on the quality of drinking water, and the effect is very temporary.
